Our Camp's Story
Hear the heart behind our mission directly from our founder, Dr. Zanethia Barnett, as she shares the story of our camp, or continue reading below to learn more. Explorations of God’s Creations (EoGC) was founded on a simple but powerful belief: every child deserves the opportunity to experience the beauty, wonder, and purpose of God’s creation. Our founder, Dr. Zanethia Barnett, is an African American Aquatic Biologist who often found herself as the only woman—and the only person of color—in many scientific and environmental spaces. Through these experiences, she recognized that the lack of diversity in environmental fields is not due to a lack of interest or care, but a lack of early access, exposure, and representation. Many young people simply never receive the opportunity to explore nature in meaningful ways. Dr. Barnett’s passion for science and the outdoors is deeply rooted in her faith. One of her most cherished childhood memories is attending Bible camp, where time spent in nature became a time of connection with God. Those experiences shaped her understanding of stewardship, community, and purpose—and inspired her desire to create similar life-giving experiences for today’s youth, especially those from historically underrepresented communities. EoGC was created to open doors that once felt closed. Through outdoor exploration, hands-on science, and faith-based values, we provide safe, accessible opportunities for children to grow, learn, and connect with God’s divine ecosystems. Our programs—including summer camps, workshops (both in-person and virtual), and community service opportunities across the Southeast U.S.—are designed to plant seeds early and nurture curiosity, confidence, and leadership. We are committed to ensuring that finances are never a barrier to participation. That’s why we offer up to 100% scholarships, making it possible for children of all backgrounds to experience the magic of nature, build community, and discover their God-given potential. GUIDED BY FAITH. INSPIRED BY NATURE. CULTIVATING THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS.
